Wow - we are almost half way through our time to finish the triathlon, and we are no where near halfway through the distances!!! Yikes! This weekend helped put a dent in it though. 'Ran' 2 Miles on Saturday and biked 2.5. Then yesterday I swam 1750 yards (out of 4425 total needed) and biked for 12.5.
This brings my overall totals to:
Run: 8 miles
Bike: 36.5 miles
Swim: 1750 yards
Here is what I need to do to finish:
Run: 26.2 miles
Bike: 112 miles
Swim: 2.4 miles or 4425 yard
As you can see I have a very long way to go!!! The next couple of weeks are going to be rough, but I can do it!
Mike's run a lot further than I have, he uses the elliptical machine and I'm convinced that makes it a little bit easier than just running. But, with this back and hips, the elliptical is what he needs to do. He came swimming with me yesterday and did awesome!! He swam 1000 yards!!! That's 40 lengths of a pool!! For someone who has never really swam laps before he did GREAT!!!
I'm having fun with all of this, but boy I'm tired!

Iron Man Triathlon - Sort of??
Yep! That's right I'm doing an Iron Man Triathlon!!! Well... over the course of 28 days anyway. :-)The local Triathlon club is sponsoring it, you have to run 26.2 miles, bike 112 miles, and swim 2.4 miles between 02/17 and 3/17.
I've already started the Couch to 5K running program, so I've been jog/walking for a few weeks now. And I will be counting my jog/walking as running, otherwise, I'm not sure I could actually run that far in that time period.
I'm guessing that the hardest part for me will be the bicycling. I don't actually own a bicycle, so I have to go to gym. And its still pretty hard for me to bicycle for really long periods of time with my problematic knees. But I think its a good goal for me!
I'll let you know how it goes. I think eventually I would like to do a triathlon, but I've always been afraid of the running part. I've been doing ok, with the Couch to 5k plan, so now I'm a little more comfortable doing it. Holy Moly I'm going to be busy!!

Benefits Administrative Manager!

I start a new position on Monday, I will be the Benefits Administrative Manager here at the University of Idaho! I'm very excited! It is going to be a challenging position, especially during this difficult time with budget cuts and the like, but I am really looking forward to it! It is a new position here, so I'll be really making my mark on what it is this position does.
This is actually my first legitimate salaried position. Hopefully that isn't going to mean that I work a ridiculous amount of hours ... but I pretty sure it does!

Someone come and find me when my desk starts to resemble this one!

So much changing so much staying the same.

It's the new year, 2010, can you believe it??? I sure can't. Seems like just yesterday, Mike, Heidi and I were ringing in 2000 at La Salles in Chico. We got married in October 2000, moved to S. Cal in 2001. Lived there until the end of 2003, then back up to Roseville, CA. I started my career in employee benefits, thanks to a great referral from my sister Christine. Mike continued to work in Optical in San Diego, Roseville, and Sacramento.
In 2007 I read an article about great small towns. Mike and I were both a little frustrated living in suburbia and commuting. The article, in a round about way, lead us to move to Moscow, ID so Mike could go back to school full time. So, in 2000 & 2010, one of us was a full time student, one worked full time, we lived in a small 2 bedroom apartment... funny how in such a round about way we seem to be back to where we started the decade. :-)

School has started back up for Mike and he's taking a pretty hectic schedule, including Quantum Physics, Nanotechnology, Astrophysics, Electromagnetic Fields II, and some really hard crazy math class. I have a feeling that I won't be seeing him much this semester!!
He also got a job!! Well, sort of anyway. He'll be grading papers for one of his professors a couple of hours a week. More than anything else it'll look good when he goes to apply for grad school.
Things are going well at my job. Actually I have a second interview for a manager position next week. Fingers crossed that all goes well! It would be nice to be able to be able to pay off some bills and bank a little extra cash. AND a benefits manager position would be great to have on my resume. It will be a tough job, but I'm confident I can do it!

Snow Snow Snow
I know, I post way to much about the weather... but it just looks so pretty outside right now! I'll take some pictures tomorrow and post! It was so nice this morning, walking to work with a light snow fall.
I really do miss being able to see the ocean all the time like we did when we lived in San Diego, but I think I may like the snow even more...

Just doesn't seem right
Procrastinating here - I really should be working on other things, but I just couldn't get this off my mind. So, I guess I'll blog about it. On Monday a colleague of mine did something really terrible. I didn't know him that well, but had been to a group miniature golf outing and dinner, and I see him around campus all the time (I work at a University). Seemed like a very nice guy. This week it seems that he 'lost it' and literally mowed down two students at Washington State University.
He hit two students early Monday morning, in two separate incidents. He hit one person in a side walk, then kept going and hit another person on the sidewalk, kept going and finally pulled over and got out of his car and was ranting and raving, still in his pajamas even. The police even had to taser him to subdue him. The students are alive, but injured.
I can't even begin to tell you how surprised I am about this. From what I knew of him, he was a hard worker who was involved on campus and in the community. Apparently, this may have been his downfall. The judge has ordered him to be evaluated for mental competency, because I guess he's even acting out in court. It's all just so strange.
Here is an AP article about the incident.
It's just one of those things... either, it can happen to anyone... or maybe you just don't know people as well as you think you do?
